How to get your Google Analytics measurement ID

What to open

Each button opens the right page on the other company's site in a new tab, so you can keep these steps open beside it.

Steps

These are the same steps you see beside the settings in your shop's back office.

1. Press Open Google Analytics and sign in with your Google account. New to it? Press Start measuring.
2. If you already have an account, press Admin (the cog, bottom left), then Create › Property.
3. Property name: your shop name. Set Reporting time zone to United Kingdom and Currency to British Pound (£). Press Next, answer the business questions and press Create.
4. When asked to choose a platform, pick Web. Website URL: your shop's web address. Stream name: Online shop. Leave Enhanced measurement on and press Create stream.
5. Google shows the stream details. Copy the Measurement ID (top right, starts with G-). If it shows install instructions instead, close them: we add the code for you.
6. Paste it into Google Analytics measurement ID here and press Save.
7. To check: open your shop in another tab, press Accept on the cookie banner, then look at Reports › Realtime in Google Analytics. You should see 1 user within a minute.
8. Optional: in Google Analytics go to Admin › Product links › Search Console links and link your Search Console, so search words show in Analytics too.
